How are the CO2 emissions calculated?
Flight travel has many variables; for example, distance flown, type of airplane, capacity, wind direction, age of airplane, engine maintenance, cruising speed, and the number of refuelling stops. Because this is by no means an exhaustive list, Trees for Travel has compiled a detailed summary to every possible destination. As carbon dioxide is not the only damaging greenhouse gas produced, we have teamed up with two other major Dutch environmental organisations to work out all emissions in terms of equivalent CO2. The calculation process has been checked and verified by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment.
