More trees means less carbon dioxide
Do you too want less greenhouse gases and more forests? When you travel you are responsible for the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Even at primary school we learn that trees absorb carbon dioxide and convert it into oxygen. So the solution is simple: Plant more trees. That is what we do with your contribution.
We Guarantee It
We are neither tour operator, travel agency nor booking office. You still make your booking and fly with the airline of your choice, but in addition you can contribute a modest amount per flight that goes towards neutralising the greenhouse effect. We guarantee that your donation will be used to finance the regeneration and maintenance of forests that will lock up greenhouse gases. Within one year these forests will offset the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from your flight(s) or other activities. You will receive a certificate by email or through the post.
The natural environment is our only shareholder
Trees for Travel is a non-profit organisation: “The natural environment is own only shareholder.” Therefore the largest possible proportion of your money benefits the forests and the people whose livelihood is dependent upon it. As such it is feasible to offset all your greenhouse gas emissions for an affordable amount.
Simple and insightful
Trees for Travel works as simply and insightfully as possible. As we operate with standard rates you know at a glance where you stand. For example, one return flight within Europe emits an average of 1.25 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Approximately 62 trees have to grow for one year in order to absorb this amount. A certificate to offset 1.25 tonnes of carbon dioxide costs 17 euros (including taxes). We arrange that an additional 7 trees will be planted. To ensure that as much money as possible benefits the forest and its dependents there are no extra administration costs.
The costs of Offsetting
The furthest trips require 3.75 tonnes of carbon dioxide to be offset (51 euros and an extra 21 trees). To offset a return flight to Mexico, for example, you pay just 34 euros. Your flight becomes totally carbon neutral as 125 trees absorb the emissions and an extra 14 are planted. You can calculate your offset requirements without obligation. If you want to offset your emissions, you will receive an automatic e-mail with the payment details and your certificate code. After your contribution has been transferred you will receive your personalised certificate within a couple of weeks. You can choose to receive your certificate digitally or though the post. Or you can choose not to receive a certificate at all; this saves us money – money that could go towards even more trees. Because Trees for Travel is a registered charity your contribution is tax deductible.

No Half Measures
Carbon dioxide produced by air travel is not solely responsible for the intensification of the greenhouse effect. Other greenhouse gases are also present at high levels in the upper atmosphere. We offset these too by calculating the greenhouse effect to CO2 equivalents agreed in the Kyoto Protocol. These calculations are verified by the Netherlands Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VROM) so we can guarantee that your flight is not only carbon neutral but climate neutral. Half measures will not get us anywhere – that’s why we plant three times as many trees than necessary just for CO2 offsetting.
